When a tooth sustains major damage or a severe cavity develops, then a restoration could be needed to treat your smile. Instead of requiring multiple visits to complete, our team could use CEREC technology to create and secure a dental crown in only one visit. In today’s blog, your Irving, TX, dentist talks about our same-day dental crowns.
Does Your Tooth Need a Dental Crown?
First, let’s discuss when a tooth benefits from a custom dental crown. We could place one when a tooth is worn down by teeth grinding, or has become cracked or chipped. We also employ them to repair teeth with major decay, or to complete a root canal for an infected or abscessed tooth. Placement could address misshapen teeth and improve bite balance and chewing function too. When we see someone with minor tooth loss, we could use one or two to secure a dental bridge in place, or one to restore a single tooth dental implant.
The CEREC System
Instead of requiring multiple visits to address your tooth, we can use the CEREC system to create and place a dental crown in only one visit. The first step is to numb the tooth before removing structure from it. We then take detailed images of the tooth from multiple angles, and use this to craft a 3D computer impression. The impression will enable our team to design it and then upload the information into an onsite milling machine. The machine then fabricates the finished product from a solid block of ceramic, which is durable and able to handle daily bite forces and pressures. The material is also translucent like tooth enamel, and can be shaded to blend with your smile seamlessly.
When the restoration is ready, we will check the fit and make any necessary adjustments before we attach it using a powerful bonding agent. In one visit, we repair your teeth to bring relief from discomfort and prevent further complications with your smile.
Protecting Your Smile
To help lower your risk of injury or tooth decay, we recommend wearing a mouthguard when you play full contact sports or martial arts. You can also fight oral health concerns by brushing and flossing daily, consuming fewer foods and drinks high in sugar, and seeing us for a checkup and cleaning visit every six months.
